BURNISHING

Burnishing is a finishing process that is used to create a smooth, polished surface on a workpiece. It involves applying pressure to the surface of a material using a hard, smooth tool or roller, which can be made of metal, stone, or other materials.

During the burnishing process, the tool or roller is moved back and forth over the surface of the workpiece, applying pressure and smoothing out any rough or uneven areas. The pressure causes the material to deform slightly, filling in any small imperfections and creating a shiny, polished surface.

Burnishing is commonly used in metalworking, where it can be used to smooth and polish metal parts such as gears, bearings, and shafts. It can also be used on other materials such as paper, leather, and wood to create a polished or glossy finish.

In addition to creating a smooth surface, burnishing can also improve the durability and corrosion resistance of a material, making it a popular finishing technique in many industries.
